I thought making Helena’s playlist would be the hardest, but once I got started, I fell into a trippy hole of songs wrought with heavy beats, distortion, and lyrics to make you feel just on the edge of insanity.
“I dreamed we were friends.”
Be warned: in addition to driving you the brink, this music may cause oddly poignant cravings for donuts, jello, and toast.
“I just want to make, like, crazy science with you. Totally crazy science.”
Okay, but, seriously… has anyone in the history of ever watched Orphan Black and not fallen totally in love with Cosima Niehaus? Ever?
I’ll take that as a “no.”
The adorkable west-coast pot-smoking geek monkey of the crew, there is so much more to Cosima than her sexuality (and glasses), as much as we love that too. This edition of the Clone Club soundtrack is for her. I’d like to think she’d make some crazy science to these techno beats, or just dance around the lab, arms flailing.
“I just wanted to say eff this, eff you… And I effed it. I effed it all up.”
It’s time for another edition of Clone Club: The Soundtrack! This week is for the pinot-drinking, headband-wearing, community-theater-diva, soccer mom herself: Mrs. Alison Hendrix.
Alison no doubt would listen to this mix in whilst angry-singing in her SUV, or while dancing around her perfect house with a glass of white in hand. So, in her spirit, I suggest you do the same.
Recently, my sister gave me a fun challenge to create individual playlists for each of the main characters of Orphan Black. (If you haven’t watched it yet, go now. Right now. It’s Friday, it’s only two seasons in and it’s amazing.)
There are – as of now – four playlists in total. Today’s featured mix? None other than our resident rebel, Sarah Manning. You’re damn right.
It’s 2012. Moreover, it’s January: the month every year when everyone is on their a-game. Getting up early to go to the gym, going out to spend quality time with friends you don’t see enough of, getting a full 8 hours of sleep, and limiting yourself to one (maybe two) glasses of wine on a school-night.
As y’all may have picked up on, 2011 was Like A Boss. The theme was declared by a friend at a 2010/2011 New Years party. And like a boss, it was. So much so that I’m a little shell-shocked, unable to stop saying “like a boss” after just about anything awesome. But a new year means a new theme, and, thanks to the Mayans, we’ve got an easy one: 2012: Like the World’s Gonna End. Tis the year for doing EVERYTHING as though it’s your last shot. No regrets. (Though, I wouldn’t recommend using your life savings to throw a world’s-end party come December).
My world’s-end resolutions for 2012 include the basics – get back into a workout routine, accept that it’s not a total loss when you inevitably fall out of said routine, act like an adult when it comes to taking care of myself (i.e., go to the doctor when and dentist more often). I also have come across a few others that I think are worth doing. And sharing with you.
Manage to save up $300-400 dollars, and then use it to visit a friend who lives far away who you don’t see often enough.
Every month, try to spend less money than you make.
Check at least three things off your bucket list. Always wanted to try sky-diving? Make it happen. Never left the country before? Apply for your passport now.
Say thank you more. To your friends, to your family, to your favorite Starbucks barista, and most of all to yourself. Instead of looking for things to change about yourself, appreciate all your achievements and accomplishments.
Get out of your comfort zone. If the world were ending, would you really want to go out having never pushed yourself beyond your limits? Whatever this means for you – asking someone out, traveling alone, or trying a new sport/hobby/whatever, do something that makes you uncomfortable. (Like the back of a Volkswagen.)
And now for your listening pleasure: the End of the World Soundtrack (pt. 1)
As many of you may have heard, a friend of mine declared (drunkenly on New Years Eve, I believe I’ve been told) that 2011 would, in fact, be LIKE A BOSS.
What she meant by that was that no matter what you do, do it like a boss. Own it. Don’t pussyfoot around making excuses, just do what you want and do it strong.
Get a job, like a boss. Join a gym, like a boss.
Today I went to the gym: like a boss. Tried a new gym class – athletic cross training – that kicked my ass. It’s 11am and I’m already sore. But I’m super jazzed and motivated to take on everything else today: new work projects, cleaning my apartment, cook dinner.
As I have said before, music is a huge motivator for me. So, what better way to spread the bossitude than to share some of my favorite songs that put me in a boss-like mood:
When you’re already struggling to pull yourself out of bed in the morning to haul-ass to the gym, or run a few laps around the park, it’s important to have some music to get you in the motivated zone for a good workout.
I’m personally a fan of high-energy dance music with strong beats for my workouts. They help me keep my pace when running or spinning, and give me good timing for my ab intervals.
Since I just juiced up my iPod, I thought I’d share a few of my new favorite workout songs! It’s always good for an energy refresh. 🙂
Tightrope, Janelle Monáe
Fuck You, Cee Lo Green (also happens to be one of my favorite music videos)
